Zero Dark Thirty Glorifies Torture in a False Way to Depict a True Story?

Why Did I Choose This?

For my First Product, I re-watched the popular movie Zero Dark Thirty and reviewed the pros and cons of the movie. I thought this would be a perfect movie to critique as I already knew it had controversy and I had some strong opinions on the subject. Also since my project is focused on media, I wanted my products to relate to forms of media as well.

What is the Movie About?

After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Osama bin Laden becomes one of the most-wanted men on the planet. The movie captivates on the worldwide manhunt for the terrorist leader, Osama Bin Laden. The story follows a dedicated female operative (Jessica Chastain) that proves instrumental in finally locating bin Laden. In May 2011, Navy SEALs launch a nighttime strike, killing bin Laden in his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Snippet of Paper:

"It was becoming more apparent that the message of the movie was more skewed and the director (Kathryn Bigelow) was not even nominated for the position of best director. The glorifying of torture was not completely historically correct. Not only was it not completely historically correct, but it implies that torture is the cure to end/ease terrorism. Although torture/enhanced interrogation techniques still take place in America, it is not the governments go to tool in terms of terrorism."
